Chef In The News
Second Edition, April 2004

Welcome to the second edition of “In the Kitchen” . Many of you provided great feedback from the first edition and I hope to hear from all of you again. I would love to hear about some of your own great recipes, amazing cooking gadgets and any responses to the articles I provide here. I will share your information in future newsletters.

Wine of the Month: Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer pronounced (Ge-vurtz-traminer) originated in the Alsace Region of France. Gewürztraminer comes from German, Gewurtz meaning spice and Traminer meaning grape variety (of Northern Italian Origin). Gewürztraminer is a well-known white wine that is full bodied, structured, powerful and seductive with intense bouquets of fruit, flowers and spices.

A batch of Gewürztraminer is usually fermented dry, but due to the high fruit flavours and aromas that come from this you would assume that it should have a rating higher then a sugar code of 0.

Gewürztraminer matches well with spicy Asian dishes such as curry, Thai, Indian and other spicy dishes as well smoked salmon.

Wines to try:
Fetzer Echo Ridge Gewürztraminer 2002, California
Hernder Estate Winery Gewürztraminer 2002, Niagara
Pierre Sparr Gewürztraminer 2001, Alsace

For a really decadent treat you should also search out a Gewürztraminer Icewine
